Moose Ridge Considered
September 8, 2018
BRIGHTON, MI — The Carl Spackler Open announced today it has added the state of Michigan and Moose Ridge to its 2018 Carl Spackler Open venue list. The venue, which is located in suburban Detroit, adds value and would be one of the best events ever.
Moose Ridge Golf Club in South Lyon promotes itself as an 'up north' Michigan golf course, in Lower Michigan. This Ray Hearn design is the brother of Ray Hearn's "Grande Golf Club" in Jackson, MI. Moose Ridge is a top notch golf facility.
Hidden on 230 acres of naturally wooded, undulating land with more than 90 feet of elevation changes, the championship course has it all. Bent grass tees, fairways and greens; well defined bunkers filled with white USGA Best Sand; acres of wetlands filled with lush wildflowers and heather; numerous water hazards and a rolling terrain provide challenge and aesthetic beauty reminiscent of premier Northern Michigan properties.
"We are looking for a superior opportunity," says Chairman of the Captains Club Greg Long. "Our event more than ever needs to bounce back hard after the winter kill incident in South Carolina. Moose Ridge fills that role."
Moose Ridge is located west of Detroit and would be the second time the Carl Spackler Open has been played in Michigan.
"Our event was played in Michigan in 2007," said Captains Club member Marty Whalen. "I have played it many times and love the golf course. With that said, Moose Ridge is a superior golf course after spending August and September on both properties."
The Moose Ridge option includes multiple hotel and nighttime options in nearby Brighton, MI. Long added, "The downtown Brighton area has very strong facilities. Moose Ridge is one of multiple options for the 2019 Carl Spackler Open."
The 2019 Carl Spackler Open continues to explore its options. A decision on venue is expected before Halloween.
