A Gumby Smile
August 11, 2004
WARREN, PA — Mike Davis, better known as Gumby, has been on fire of late, but struggling to get the points he deserves. The same guy who stroked the ball 50 times during the front nine of Round 2, has been playing in the high 70's and low 80's for the better part of 30 days.
"Things are working right now and cannot really be explained," says Gumby. "I am getting the birdies required and even shot an eagle last week on the scorecard. These are necessary to keep my chances at my first On Tour Championship alive."
Gumby scored 32 pars last week at Conewango Country Club over 36 holes. He also had 4 birdies and one eagle at Blueberry on August 2.
"There is difference between playing golf with intensity and with a smile," says Gumby. "The pressure is a factor in golf and happiness brings the 70's."
The On Tour Championship is scheduled to complete in 115 days.
