January 29, 2020
FARMINGTON, NM — The 2020 Carl Spackler Open has a date, a location, and a fee. Most of the details are complete. Registration opened several months ago with all rumor and some action.
"The budget for this event was set at 60 golfers," says Chief Financial Officer Rick Dosky. "The club raised its forecast to expect 70 golfers in New Mexico, but who exactly will show up is a truck load of rumor. There is a maximum of 96 golfers this year."
The 20th event has 30 paid players and 30 more who are rumored to be probable or better. There are at least 12 additional players expected.
"These are estimates," says Marty Whalen, who is registered for his 10th straight tournament. "Our 70-golfer estimate is conservative and it could climb as more rumors surface."
The tournament office had Michigan flash backs In January. Tournament officials contacted Pinon Hills to touch base and can confirm the general manager and head professional were aware of us before accepting the call. This is great news as we move forward past Moose Ridge Golf Club.
Kevin Long, Rob Fustich, and Jay Myers are some players rumored to be skipping the 20th event. There are at least a dozen more past participants expected to skip the event.
"This event is setup like no other," says Matt Pritchard. "It is going to be great event."
The worst player in tournament history, Mark Wray, is expected to return along with rumors of Jean Dore, Jeff Tatum, 2018 Champion Chris Price, and a slim possibility of Tom McCauley.
The 2020 Carl Spackler Open will be held on June 10. The deadline for registration is February 28. Players are reminded that money received cannot be posted without a registration for each event. All players are encouraged to register regardless of whether they are attending.
