TERRA ALTA, WV — The Golfapalooza Founding Fathers are pleased to announce that registration for GXXVI is now open at Golfapalooza.com. The event will take place once again in the hallowed hills of West Virginia at the Alpine Lake Resort in Terra Alta. The KGB Cup will be on Wednesday, September 14th, and the official tournament rounds will follow on Thursday through Saturday.

Golfapalooza had a bit of a scare earlier this year, receiving information from the Wilsons that they would not be making their cabin available to us, which was not the plan we left Alpine Lake with last September. So for the first time since GII, Wilson cabin will not be the home base of G. Thankfully, we have negotiated with Alpine Lake management to have the entire hotel as our home base. We are getting a flat fee to have as many rooms as we need – the hotel can hold all Loozers in one location without the indignity of sharing a double bed. (You can share a double bed if you want; Spyderrrrrrrrrrr, you can still spoon with Padre – we don’t want to get in the way of that.) No other non-Golfapalooza guests will be able to book rooms during the time we are there.

So Golfapalooza XXVI may have a little different feel to it. But we are working out the details with management to ensure that it is no less of a G-worthy experience despite this big change. The hotel has two parking lots; we will be permitted to use the parking lot on the putt-putt side of the hotel for our normal cornhole activities. We are looking at options for ‘community rooms’ for playing cards, watching games etc. – this may include rooms being made available to us in the lodge, and/or making space available in a couple of unused hotel rooms. We will not be able to make our own hot breakfasts, and we’re trying to get breakfast included with our hotel package. Based on the rates we’ve discussed so far, we expect the overall cost of G to increase by about $100 to $150 per man; and that fluctuation will depend on what else we negotiate into the rate, as well as how many Loozers sign on to attend.

We understand that many of us will mourn the loss of Wilson Cabin as a Golfapalooza staple – I personally can’t believe my week is not going to start exactly as it has every G since GIII – by driving down Baneberry Lane blaring the horn starting all the way at the top of the hill. But we’re confident that that which we are losing will be sufficiently overshadowed by that which we are gaining and as well, that which we are avoiding.
