Strategic Approach to Rosters
December 14, 2024
JACKSON, MS — In a departure from its two-decade tradition of a simple first-come, first-served registration process, the Carl Spackler Open announced a groundbreaking change for its 2023 tournament. Moving forward, future rosters are meticulously built in three distinct phases, each utilizing a prioritized Roster Worksheet, ensuring an efficient and strategic allocation of tee times until the final registration deadline.
Emphasizing transparency, the Captain's Club builds each roster based on familiar contributions while empowering registrants with control over their eligibility. The process has been designed to accommodate 40, 60, or 92 golfers, ensuring flexibility without compromising simplicity for registrants and ease of management.
"Contributions to the Carl Spackler Open are diverse, encompassing volunteer exemptions, recent participation, scorecard postings from local play, timely payments, and acknowledgement of the basic golf rules," said Chairman of the Captains Club Greg Long. "It boils down to volunteer, enter scorecards, pay ontime, and acknowledge our five basic golf rules."
Each annual roster worksheet grants the Captain's Club the authority to exempt special circumstances. The Captains Club also grants prioritized eligibility for the previous three winners, five rookie spots, reigning Tara Boland award winner, and Rookie of the Year.
The registration and participant option processes actively collect a wealth of information from golfers, ranging from acknowledgement of basic golf rules, providing personal club yardages, mobile scoring assistance, and over a thousand playing partner and roommate preferences. "Our favorite playing partners receive prioritized eligibility on the Roster Worksheet," added Long. "There are ten in Phase 1 and ten in Phase 2."
The Roster Worksheet is a list of past participants from the previous three events. The worksheet will not initially contain 350 golfer names, but add further unlisted past participants upon registration.
The Carl Spackler Open volunteers eagerly anticipate the unfolding of the 2024 Carl Spackler Open with heightened excitement. These strategic changes reflect a commitment to fairness, transparency, and a continued celebration of the diverse contributions that make this event a highlight in the world of amateur golf. Participants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the new process, recognizing that their individual contributions play a crucial role in shaping the future of the Carl Spackler Open.
