MARYSVILLE, OH — Life beginning at 38 may be true for many, but Tom Fowble is content with the moment on the Carl Spackler tour.
Even after turning 38, Fowble is still a massive threat. He won the 2003 Carl Spackler Open and currently sits in 5th place for the 2004 On Tour Championship. Not bad for a guy that shot 138 in early 2001 without losing a ball.
"This is pretty satisfying," said Fowble. "Actually, it is very gratifying to have a rock solid golf game. I do feel a little different over the ball these days."
"My ultimate goal is win the On Tour Championship and become the first player to do both," he said. "This year is by best opportunity. I have been playing poorly this month."
Fowble sits behind Jim English, who leads the tournament. Glenn Hoffert, Mike Lewis, and Matt Davis sit on the leaderboard just ahead of Fowble.
"I?m not a long hitter, so I?m hitting longer shots into the greens, but my irons have really been good," he said. Fowble won the 2003 Carl Spackler Open in Ohio by 1 point over Chad Long.
The 2004 On Tour Championship is scheduled to crown it's next winner on November 30, 2004. That is exactly 32 days away.
