Chad Sends Mixed Message
August 8, 2001
COLUMBUS, OH — Any player who shoots 53 on the front and finishes with 40 strokes on the back in the Summer Open will have Carl Spackler and the field "scratching their heads". This head scratching was applied perfectly by Chad Long.
Not many others have faced such a fight to get to the big leagues. The big leagues is anyone that reaches the 40 mark, which C.P. did at Oakhaven Tuesday evening.
C.P.'s 40 was his best score of the season, giving him a slue of confidence for the 2002 Open Championship next April.
"It's been my dream, where I've been trying to go for a long time," C.P. said while playing with Don McFarland and Pat McElroy during their weekly Tuesday night league. "I appreciate this so much more."
"It was in the back of my mind after shooting a 53 last week. Did I miss my window?" he said. "I really believed that with some hard work, I could get my game back to where it was."
Where it was, indeed.
