Spackler Hits 3,000

April 14, 2005

BRUNSWICK, OH — The Carl Spackler Open has seen great things over the years.  First, the creation of a Captains Club and then the creation of a website to bring it all together.  In conjunction with Golfapalooza, the largest golf trip in America reached another milestone on Wednesday with their 3,000th submitted scorecard in just 5 short years.

Mike Certo played Mallard Creek and submitted the 3,000th scorecard.  "Do I win something," says Certo with huge bug eyes.  "I probably do not deserve anything after that horrible round.  The birdie saved me."

The 3,000 scorecards does not surprise Greg Long.  "It does not surprise me," says Greg Long, Chairman of the Captains Club.  "It really demonstrates the demand for a place to gather and share golf information."

The website has received 172 scorecards since January 1, 2005.  That number has doubled the 80 cards in 2004.

"It was only a start to what was yet to come," says Long.  "We really like the progress.  I think the tournament is growing at pace we cannot control.  It is just too much fun for people to sit back and ignore."

"We have extremely high expectations," says Greg Long.  "I challenge anyone to prove the Carl Spackler Open is not currently the largest online golf group and largest multi-day golf trip in America.  It's only a matter of time before national exposure."

Long was asked about the possibility of 1,000 scorecards in 2005.  "We have 172 during the winter months. The 2005 Carl Spackler Open in Pottsville guarantees 272 more scorecards.  That only leaves 556 scorecards to be entered.  The real question is whether we will hit 4,000 scorecards this year."

There are currently 145 players registered online.  As the heavy golf season begins, players from 18 different states plan to assault golf courses all over the country.
