Better than Thunder Hill
May 15, 2005
BARNESVILLE, PA — The four members of the Captains Club along with members Grady Walters and Surinder Punia nearly beat a massive rain storm on Saturday at Mountain Valley. Myers, Trojanowski, Dilks, and Creighton finalized plans for the 2005 Carl Spackler Open and made another installment into their 2005 On Tour Championship dreams.
All players were very impressed with the golf facility. Jamie Myers wanted to mention his high regards. "I am going to make it simple," says Myers. "This place is built for the Carl Spackler Open. It has everything from Thunder Hill plus crisp clean air, much more beauty, and outstanding conditions."
"Thunder Hill is not that good anymore," says Jamie Myers. "I drove 13 hours, lost 25 balls, was rained on, took 7 zeros on Oak, probably shot 130, and still consider Mountain Valley the tops.
Myers shot 129 with a mere 29 points. Don Creighton continued to shine with an impressive 110 with two 10's on his card. "Don could have easily shot in the 90's," says Myers. "If Creighton could learn to putt, he would be an awesome golfer."
Someone from the press room asked Myers, "Mountain Valley comes highly regarded by the readers of Golf Digest. I think something like 6th or 7th best value in America. What are you thoughts on the $30 weekend price tag that includes cart?" Myers replied immediately, "I want to play one through five. I would be surprised if they are better."
All four players played poorly at Mountain Valley. Most fell to the extremely tight fairways and heavy dense forest. The On Tour Championship continues through May with a heavy golf planned today.
