Stumpy Strong Dore
June 23, 2005
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — That unique feeling came to Jean Dore on the 18th green at Stumpy Lake on Tuesday. Jean scored a near career high 55 points and career low 84 strokes as he moved up the leaderboard into 5th position for the On Tour Championship.
After electrifying the crowd with 7 pars, he is now only 4.4 points per round from first place. "I have really been playing well as of late," says Dore. "It is a shame that I let my fans down with 120 strokes at the Carl Spackler Open. That was embarrassing to me and my family."
For Dore, a futile charge at the lead is symbolic of his dreams as a child to win something important. Jean finds no satisfaction in a runner-up trophy.
"If you feel you have an opportunity to win and you don?t take that opportunity seriously, then it?s disappointing," said Dore. "I don't want to be looking back in October wishing something different."
Dore has been hitting the ball beautifully and controlled his ball flight very well," said Jay Glover. "I always drive the ball better than him because he is belly is twice as big and twice as restrictive. The quality of his shots has gotten better, but he needs to get rid of the double bogeys."
Dore has other ideas. "I?ve taken some giant strides and that?s exciting to me," says Dore. "I find it important to better my game this year more than any other player. I consider it a goal and plan to meet it."
The 2005 On Tour Championship has Chris Lashley, Scott Miller, and Matt Davis at the bottom of the leaderboard.
