Gumby Under Fire

June 30, 2005

WARREN, PA — As Brian Long would say, Gumby is ?just under fire?.  The 230-pound, 6-foot tall Warrenite from Pennsylvania has been lighting up the fairways so well he?s landed himself in fifth place on the On Tour Leaderboard, powered by his recent round of 79 strokes and 50 points at Blueberry Hill Golf Club.

?I?m just feeling it when there's no pressure involved.  I am at the top of my game and feel like I can do anything right now,? exclaimed Mike ?Gumby? Davis.  ?Hell, I might hit the course record pretty soon.  Assuming it can be counted in non-major championship play."

?Creighton hasn?t recorded a round since May, I think he?s a little European fashion-wannabe,? shouted Matt Davis.  ?C?mon Escobar, leave the women alone for a while and let?s tee it up for once.  I don?t think you?ve got the game to last an entire season.  As a matter of fact, I think my brother is going to beat you even if you don?t play the rest of the year anyway.  Whaddya think of that??  added Pokey.

Surely the pressure must be getting to Creighton.  Gumby shot an 88 in his practice round at Mountain Valley, good for 44 points, and his last round of 50 points has put his average at a solid 43.8 points.  Of the three players in front of Gumby; Steve Hoden, John McAninch and Greg Garrett, only McAninch has played a round following the 2005 Carl Spackler Open, and he also recorded an impressive round of 51 points generated by an 86 at Jefferson Country Club.

?Escobar?come out to play-eeee...,? taunted a supremely confident and equally disturbing Gumby.  It?s as if he?s hunting a nervous and wary prey, a prey that knows he is being stalked by a tireless and bloodthirsty predator.  Only time will tell if Don Creighton has the patience to play the waiting game for the entire On Tour Championship season.
