Mr. Consistency
July 7, 2005
GLEN ALLEN, VA — There are not many people that could predict the number of strokes they will endure before a round of golf. Not many play 39 rounds and best and worst scores are within 17 strokes. Scott Zavinski is just Mr. Bogey Golf when tournament play is absent. When on the road, he can guarantee 90 strokes regardless of golf course, day of week, or time of day.
"This guy is boring," says member Jean Dore of Virginia Beach. "This guy reminds me of someone that I know. He probably never has a bad day at the office, has an average salary, in an average home, consumes average number of beers at the bar, and had an average number of girl friends in high school."
Zavinski did come off the train tracks in June at the 2005 Carl Spackler Open. He was one of many guys that allowed the short, but tight, Mountain Valley golf course to rocket their golf game to all-time highs. Scott shot 112 strokes during Round 2 where he carded two 10's, three 8's, and three 7's.
"It has been a dream of mine to become a competitive golfer and consistently challenge the top players," says Zavinski. "The problem continues to be my inability to restructure my chicken wing into a power position that is on target line and swing plane. Something that allows my hips to blast the ball off the tee just like Academy Live explains. I am one of those guys that take the easy way out with new clubs each year."
Zavinski played at Lee's Hill Golfers' Club over the holiday weekend while shooting 93 strokes and 44 points. His 5 pars setup the impressive round.
The 2005 On Tour Championship continues to see Don Creighton on top with 49.0 points per round. Steve Hoden holds 2nd position with 45.8 points per round.
