Jean Jumps into 1st

August 4, 2005

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — Jean Dore fired a 1-under 35 on the front nine of Stumpy Lake that jumped him into the lead in the 2005 On Tour Championship. Dore finished the round at 9-over par 81.

The front nine included 3 birdies worth 24 points.  He also scored 16 points with 4 pars on the way out.  After acheiving a personal best on the front nine, the back nine was a train wreck at 1-over bogey golf.

"The front was a victory and a lot goes with that," said Dore. "I work so hard, and I just feel like I want this season-long tournament and need to make a move before football season."

Jean Dore scored 67 points at Stumpy Lake and hopped into first position with 51.5 points per round.  Don Creighton falls into second place with 49.0 points per round followed by Scott Zavinski with 47.6 and Tom Fowble with 47.3 points.

While clinging and stalling with his lead, Creighton now must decide whether to play again or continue to stall.  Regardless, Fowble and Zavinski are strong contenders that cannot be ignored.

"Jean is playing very well," says Jay Glover of Virginia Beach.  "I just hope he continues to play at his employer [Stumpy Lake] because he seems to visually know the course like no other.  I do not know if his game will hold up somewhere else."

Jean Dore registered late in 2004 and submitted his first round on New Year's Eve.  He has posted 22 scorecards this year and has steadly improved.  His first round consisted of a personal best of 88 strokes and 49 points.  His last 10 rounds include two rounds of 81 strokes and 67 points.  One round with 66 points.  All three rounds at Stumpy Lake.

Don Creighton was asked for comment on his sudden fall from first place.  He was not available for comment.

The 2005 On Tour Championship completes on December 30.  Chris Lashley holds last place with 15.7 points per round.  Matt Davis was put on injured reserve with 17.2 points per round and 76th place.
