Glover Scores 27
August 30, 2005
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — Jay Glover, a rookie for the 2005 Carl Spackler Open is trying to get things on track. His 2005 best at Hell's Point over the weekend yielded only 27 points. "I haven't hit any great shots lately," he said with a smile. "I am just solid with nothing special."
"I haven't counted up a lot of birdies," he said. "I have not been close enough on my approaches to score points." At least he can still joke about it.
Friend Trent Cooper added, "This year so far has been very consistent for Jay," he said. "For one reason or another, he has found a rhythm. So, it has been very steady golf without birdies or eagles."
So why are his spirits so high? Why is there a smile instead of a scowl as he continues to drop his overall strokes, but disappoint with total points? This is Bootsy's favorite time of year where he shines. Best of all, Glover thinks his swing has been better than the results show and the field could get nervous if he makes a run.
"I know where I'm at right now, and I know where I will be soon," he said. "That's what is exciting, knowing that I can make plenty of exciting moments."
He spent about four hours on the range at home with his mother this week, the only teacher he has ever had. They worked primarily on alignment, and standing taller over the ball, taking the longer irons back properly.
There already has been plenty to forget this year. Lashley simply wants to make statements, and those statements are not par.
