Seeking Psychologist

September 11, 2001

NORFOLK, VA — Chris Goss, outwardly calm but inwardly agitated, has turned to a sports psychologist to change his fortunes.

Gossy has not played well in either Virginia or any other state this year and opted to consult the psychologist for the first time after seeing how it helped his friend Glenn Hoffert win the Carl Spackler Spring Open.

"On the outside I definitely look pretty calm," said Gossy. "But inside I've got goals I want to achieve, and when I don't get there I get pretty agitated, irritated with myself and my game.  That was the case this summer when I didn't have my game with me.  I played in some big rounds and it was quite frustrating.

"So although I try to keep calm, I wasn't calm inside, fighting with myself a little bit." Gossy said he likes the direction things have gone with his psychologist.

"I wouldn't say I am totally where I want to be, but I'm on my way back," he said. Gossy is certainly seeking a change of fortune in the 2002 Carl Spackler Open.
