Players get ready for Open
February 27, 2001
WARREN, PA — Players are starting to think the intimidation factor has gone over this long winter, but with the Open just two weeks away, Matt Davis (i.e. Pokey) has thrown down the gauntlet.
As runner-up in the Blueberry 2-man the last two years, Pokey has shown he is still one of the best player in the game. And he'll ride his best golf of the life into the tournament where most everybody already fears him.
With the recent signing of Kevin Long, the other top contenders will head to Myrtle Beach with doubts about their games. Difficult times at The Open Championship are not what they needed prior to the first major.
Jason Watson, Mike Trojonowski, Jay Dilks, and Tom McCauley are just some of the players who signed to play in this 2001 Inaugural Open.
On top of it all, Jamie Myers' game is in excellent shape as he thinks about a first golden jacket. "To be able to win a championship like this on an extremely demanding golf course, with probably the best field assembled in all of golf ... it's extremely rewarding," said Myers, who expects to score 102 points next week.
Just as planned, everything seems to be falling in place just in time for a great weekend of golf.
