Troj Seeks Title Defense
October 14, 2002
JAMESTOWN, NY — After a few months off to unwind from his Carl Spackler victory, it's back to the business of defending Carl Spackler Open Championship Trophy for Mike Trojanowski. "This may be a little less pressure than the Cervic Outfit," Trojanowski said Sunday. "But this is a big event and I'm ready to give my all to defend the title in June 2003."
Last year, Trojanowski bogeyed five of the last thirteen holes to snatch the prize from Ohio's Don McFarland. "Winning it was out of this world," Trojanowski said of the Championship. "It means so much to field of players." Mike also brought the "closest to the pin" award back to Jamestown, NY. with a shot from 155 yards to 6 feet.
Trojanowski, who went from last(2001) to first(2002), was criticized by some players for his play in 2001 when he played awful. "I didn't feel what I did was that terrible in 2001," Trojanowski said. "The important thing was the turn around in 2002. Troj spent the off season with friends back in New York, but managed to work a little practice into his schedule.
"And now I'm looking forward to this spring," he said. "I've always liked the spring. The fairways are pretty green and trees are beautiful." Trojanowski will need to improve his game as his NOOG points are mostly likely to decrease in January.
The 2003 Carl Spackler Open is scheduled for Round 1 play on June 5, 2003. The Open site has yet to be determined, however will be played in Ohio or Pennsylvania. An announcement on location is scheduled in November.
