Dilks to Attend Open
December 6, 2002
BALTIMORE, MD — The Open Championship has verified another member of the Captain?s Club has signed to play in 2003. CFO, Rick Dosky announced the signing of ?pink-tee? Jay Dilks to a National Letter of Intent for the 2003 Carl Spackler Open in Madison, Ohio. As last year, this is likely to be the lone signee for the state of Maryland during the December signing period.
Jay Dilks has been harassed over the past year about his use of ?pink-tees? on the golf course. He uses pink-tees on each hole that he leaves a putt short. In the 2001 Open Championship, Dilksy easily placed last in the putting category, but rebounded to 9th place out 18 players in 2002. Jay went his last 36 holes in Williamsburg with only two long putts as he did in 2001 in Myrtle Beach. ?I worked on my putting again this summer?, said Dilks. ?I plan to contend this year and be more successful after Round 2, but everyone must understand there is a very talented field out there.?
"Dilksy is a highly competitive athlete and one of the nation's most sought-after recruits," commented Dosky, who is one of a long list of great amateur golfers. With addition of Dilksy, the tournament stands at four players for this upcoming June tournament ? myself, Greg Garrett and Don McFarland - we will look for Dilksy to fill one of those coveted spots in our fantastic field. He is so mentally tough out on the course, hopefully he can continue to be strong throughout the weekend. Dilksy will bring lots of talent and enthusiasm to our tournament."
