Escobar out of Dog house

February 25, 2002

BROOKLYN, NY — In a surprising moment of emotion, Carl Spackler reinstated troubled golfer Donald Creighton (i.e. Escobar) to the Carl Spackler Open?s Captain?s Club.  Escobar had been the subject of much gossip and hearsay as his dedication to the CSOC was being questioned.

?I was tired of hearing how some rookies felt they deserved to be there more than I did,? said Escobar.  ?People don?t realize that I was going through a trying time in my life.?  When asked about his apparent lack of support for the tournament, Escobar commented, ?Nothing could be further from the truth.?

Escobar?s recent welcome back was a direct result of his new found enthusiasm for the tournament.  Tom McCauley commented, ?I must admit, I was surprised to see him immediately pay in full.  I didn?t know if he was even going to make it to this year?s tournament.?

Escobar explained, ?Can you imagine having to sink a 6 foot put on the final hole to save yourself the embarrassment of wearing the Spackler Outfit??  Greg Long, Chairman of the Captain?s Club made a short statement, ?No one was more surprised than me to see Mr. Creighton submit not one scorecard but two!?  Mr. Long finished his comments, ?I know it took a strong man to face his fears and return to this year?s event.?
