Sokos takes Lead

September 26, 2003

TERRA ALTA, WV — Gus Sokos, Founding Father, has begun with fire. Gus started well and continued his excellence, or luck, on Thursday. "He really was lucky today", said Max Dieterle. "Sokos will not continue to play that well. He just isn't that good and Slick will not be around to feed him the liquor he requires to stay relaxed."

Brian McCormick, Todd Flanagan, Greg Long and Jason Watson also started well as they rounded out the top five. "Things are much better this year", said Watson. "My main goal this off-season was to repeat and I like my current position. "Todd Flanagan also roared to the top of the leaderboard even after hacking at several times today.

J.T. Thomas surprised the field by showing up at Alpine Lake to play Round 1. J.T. shot 104 on the Terra Alta design. The Assman is currently at the bottom of the leaderboard with 10 points.

The first round brought a heavy downpour of rain most of the front nine, which included standing water on a few greens.  The rain cleared for the back nine.

Round 2 of Golapalooza will begin at 10AM on Friday. The field is talking about Friday as the day to make their move. Weather continues to poor as they are forecasting 58 degrees with rain.
