McFarland Shoots 137
April 8, 2002
HILLIARD, OH — The day was cool, the sun was bright, however some scores on Sunday were not so bright. Don McFarland had a date at Indian Springs in Mechanicsburg, Ohio and did not make the best of it. What started terrible and ended short of a complete disaster as the rookie started his round with a 16 on Hole #1 and preceded to shoot 137 for his round.
Don McFarland scored four points for his round plus received 16 bonus NOOG points for the tough Indian Springs slope of 137. "To give you an idea of my game today; I scored my first NOOG points of the day on Hole #15. I scored two points on Hole #15 and #16 and that was it.
Don shot a 65-over, 137 in route to the second worst score since the Carl Spackler Open began in March 2001. The front nine was the worst thing that I have ever seen on a golf course", said Greg Garrett. "He shot 74 times on the front. Greg Long shot 83 for 18 holes today." Don was very disappointed on Sunday, but is still excited about next week. "I can't believe a 74 was possible. I got the butterflies for the Open and just wasn't able to concentrate. I will continue to improve my game for the Open Championship."
