WESTERVILLE, OH — Chad Long, from Westerville, Ohio, has signed a letter of intent to return to the Carl Spackler Open that almost made him famous in the summer of 2003, the Captains Club announced Monday.

Long, the 21st to sign, has been very competitive in the weekly golf league and continues to keep a 2nd driver in his golf bag. Chad has added a King Cobra to his existing Olimar driver last year because of inconsistency.

"We're extremely excited to sign Chad, he's a quality guy ability to win under pressure", CEO Jamie Myers said. "He's has been an extremely hard worker on the putting surface since the debacle of 2003. He may be a little inexperienced in tournament play due to having two kids under the age of 3, but he's very coachable, is passionate about the game, and wants to compete at the next level. Unfortunately, he is unable to play under the stress of a very large putt.  As a recruiter for the Spackler Open, those are things you look for."

When Chad was asked about missing the big one, he responded, "I played real well that weekend. Probably my best golf ever.  The plane, target line and my repeating swing just seemed to work each day and my Saturday back nine was truely remarkable."  With a spark in his eyes, he raised his humble voice, "You can focus on one putt or focus on the truth.  Fowble gets too many points and I could not hit scratch down the stretch.  I was three points from destiny, but instead I be critized after my best 3 rounds of golf in my history."

Chad did mention one thing before leaving the player news conference. "Talk about someone that cannot make a putt.  Fowble sucks at putting."

Chad is the 22nd player to sign for the 2004 Carl Spackler Open.  He continues to increase the strong field from Ohio that now stands at 9 strong players, two of which already have a Golden Jacket.  Two more that have 2nd place finishes.

Chad placed 2nd in the 2003 Carl Spackler Open with 110 points behind Tom Fowble with 112. Chad started with a very quiet 28 points before turning in a few Tiger Woods scorecards as he continued to move up the leaderboard and make his move. Chad scored 36 points in Round 2 as he climbed the leaderboard and hit an amazing 46 points in his final round.
