Winner to get $329
February 27, 2004
WINSTON-SALEM, NC — The Captains Club announced Thursday that it held it's tournament purse at the cost of the tournament for the 2004 Carl Spackler Open. The Club made the financial adjustment to $329 after demand had increased over the past year and overall costs have decreased. The winner will take home a pocket full of cash.
"Our group really wants the event to succeed and money will give it the aspect it requires", said Greg Garrett, soon to become a member of the Captains Club. "The Horses Ass Trophy shows the funny side of the players, but the purse will keep things competitive." Garrett added, "The winner will not just win a free vacation, but an experience of a lifetime and a few kitchen passes for next year if the purse is spent correctly."
A second and third place payout is still in the works for 2004. As players continue to sign each year, the demand for a larger purse will continue to push the Captains Club.
The winner of the 54-hole tournament will not just win the cash, but the prestigous Golden Jacket and Trophy. The Open Championship is scheduled to kick off in 103 days in Winston-Salem, NC. There are no favorites to date, but 44 players will have a chance at the glory.
