MYRTLE BEACH, SC — As the three year anniversary passes of the inaugural Carl Spackler Open Championship, only two things come to mind. A golden performance from Greg Long (i.e. Slick) in the home stretch and ungolden performance by Mike Trojanowski (i.e. Troj) down the stretch. The consistent play of the cat's (Tiger's Eye, Lion's Paw, Panther's Run) by Long sealed the victory when the field just could not keep things going.  However, this year things will be different as talent such as Chris Lashley, Jeff Cowan and Bill Dick will embark on a journey to win the coveted Golden Jacket and the tournament purse.

"I think that a shot is all I have", said Slick. "I did win the tournament in 2001, but it helps when McCauley shits the bed in Round 3 and Pokey decides to drink a shot of vodka on every hole on the back nine." Slick won the tournament last year with 107 points, but the Captains Club expects a record performance due to warmer and dryer conditions in 2004. "I also have modified my swing to the point that too many adjustments are being made. All I can do is give it my best shot."

Slick added, "I do have some favorites in mind. I do not like talking about other players, but Dilks interests me.  Jim Campbell, however does not interest me.  He is just flat out in trouble."  Slick might be referring to Jim's 18% drop in score since May 2003.

Slick was then asked about other players to watch. "Watson is always someone to watch. He once took 20 strokes off his game in one year.  Lee Spruill is another.  A mustache like that is nothing to ignore."

The Carl Spackler Open opens play in 82 days in Winston-Salem, NC. The field is working hard on their games and it should be a great tournament. An additional practice round is scheduled for Wednesday, June 9 and many players are scheduled to attend. Tom McCauley, Vice President of Golf Instruction is scheduled for a swing workshop at 6PM.
