WINSTON-SALEM, NC — Jim Zavinski of Warren, PA has signed a national letter-of-intent to play golf at the 2004 Carl Spackler Open, Mike Trojanowski of the Captains Club announced today. The rookie will join the field as the 2nd alternate for the annual 54-hole tournament and replace Brandon Vickers to make a field of 47 players.

A native of Warren, Z has earned nothing over this spring except 11th in the On Tour Championship. However, Zavinski has been nominated for the best iron-play in the field of 47 players. "Jim is not your average player," says Troj.  "If he can keep the ball in play off the tee, Jim can position himself for birdie on most holes."

The Spackler business office has been busy of late with withdrawals and player signings.  Scott Miller, Don McFarland, and Brandon Vickers have withdrawn from the tournament in the past 3 weeks, while Joe Caridi and now Jim Zavinski have signed to make the field 47 players.  The business office is still on the lookout for a quick replacement to return the field to 48 players.

"Zavinski is a great golfer and a individual who will contribute to the success of the Spackler Open," said Trojanowski. "I am excited to be around such a player; he has a great deal of talent and excitement for the game of golf. I suspect he will have a successful career at Open Championship."

When Zavinksi was reached for comment, he didn?t spare the trash. "I'm just as excited about my rookie year. I think I'm still getting better and should be considered the front runner to win this thing. I can't wait to win my first major, I really can?t wait," he said. "On a golf course like Tanglewood Park, I still think I have the ability to dominate."
