Getting Away
July 12, 2004
WINSTON-SALEM, NC — Despite Bill Dick's personal struggles, the 2004 Carl Spackler Open is in the books. A struggle that left a 7-point gap between Bill and Carl Spackler Outfit.
"It was a very tough week out there," says Dick. "I think 47th place is really like robbing a bank, being chased, but getting away."
Bill shot 92, 94, and 98 before leaving for his first major championship. Then arrived for the practice round and shot 125. "There was nothing good from the practice round," says Dick. "I was just glad to be out there with my brother John."
Bill shot 113, 120, and 106 for the tournament scoring 20, 18, and 22 points respectively. "I needed bogeys and pars," says Dick. "I had 3 pars all week and that sums up the week."
Bill started poorly in 40th place before slipping to 44th place after Round 2. He finally fell again to 47th place after his 20 point final round. "The tournament was great, but my game needs work. A lot of work."
The 2005 Carl Spackler Open is scheduled to open play in 331 days. A location and golf course will be announced in 77 days.
