Spackler's Player of the Year Wide Open
November 17, 2005
WARREN, PA — Scott Mealey returned to the Virtual Tournament for the 3rd time since his registration back in 2002. He worked his way down the leaderboard this season and finds himself completely removed from Player of the Year Award nominations.
On the other hand, Nick Casale who continues to progress year after year with this golf game has found 2nd place in this year's virtual tournament. He is a talented player that just realized the benefits to the Carl Spackler Open Championship with his education in Pottsville.
Those are two individuals with two different perspectives and one individual looking at the possibility of glory.
"My biggest goal is to win something this year if not place well," says Nick Casale. "That Dore guy has to be cheating with points that high."
What he doesn't have is a lock on player of the year. For the first time in three years, golf heads into the stretch run without a lock for "Player of the Year" -- best on tour as voted by the players -- up for grabs.
Jean Dore has done everything except play multiple courses, give back to his local community, finish strong at the 2005 Carl Spackler Open, and beat up on Trent Cooper.
Other players with Player of the Year possibilities include Rick Dosky with a Golden Jacket, Tom Fowble with a Golden Jacket and possibly a Top 3 finish in the virtual tournament, and Jim English who could possibly place in two consecutive Top 10 finishes in the virtual tournament.
"English is incredible," says Mike Trojanowski. "He has consistently improved his golf game month after month after month."
The 2005 Virtual Tournament completes in 42 days.
