Spackler Bus Planned
November 17, 2004
POTTSVILLE, PA — The Carl Spackler Open, leader in amateur golf entertainment, will be inserting a "first ever" Spackler Bus in June. The bus is scheduled to transport 44 golfers to and from the golf course and to Maroon's Sports Bar during the 2005 Carl Spackler Open near Pottsville, PA.
"We are delighted with our sober transportation system," says Don Creighton, Vice President of Alcohol Consumption Management. "With 10 miles to/from the hotel/golf course, we feel it makes sense. Add negotiated beers at $1 and it turned into a must."
The Mountain Valley clubhouse hosts a 1,000 patron "Madness on the Mountain" party each Friday during the summer season from 7:30PM to 10:00PM. The party includes music, very low prices, and two finishing greens just off the 5,000 square foot clubhouse deck. One use for the bus will be transportation to and from the golf course during the huge clubhouse party.
"We have inserted smaller size transportation throughout the week, however will use the bus when it is appropriate," says Creighton. "Although, we expect much more than 44 golfers in the field, the bus guarantees sober and safe transportation for everyone."
The consumption of alcohol will begin after the practice round at Maroon's Sports Bar for $1 per draft beer. It will continue early Thursday morning at the Yuengling Brewery with a tour and taste test. Round 1 begins two hours later.
The 2005 Carl Spackler Open is scheduled to begin in 203 days. The signing period begun on Monday. Players have 43 days to pay their deposit. An estimated record of 60 golfers have verbally committed to the Open Championship.
