COLUMBUS, OH — The Captains Club announced today the signing of their Chairman Greg Long of Columbus, Ohio, to a National Letter of Intent to play the 2005 Carl Spackler Open.

The Pennsylvania native returns to his stomping grounds in search of his 2nd Golden Jacket and his first with a very strong and competitive field.  His resume also includes 8 major championships since 2001 and a Spackler record 132 submitted scorecards.

"Greg is a wonderful young man and he will continue to add a great deal of depth to a very strong line-up," said Mike Trojanowski. "Slick has mainly competed on the amateur circuit, but has already proven that he can play with the best players. He returns to us from Ohio, which produces some of the best players every year. Greg works very hard and is very competitive which is an attribute that will take him a long way. We are very excited about 2005."

Long's accomplishments include the 2003 Closest to the Pin Contest and the lowest RAW score in 3 of 4 tournaments.  He is in 48th place for the 2004 On Tour Championship, placed 3rd at Golfapalooza 2004, and placed 18th in Winston-Salem.

"I am very excited about Mountain Valley," says Long.  "Being the shortest course in Spackler history, I am finally going to get the respect I need with my ball control.  Too many guys think my game is tailored to extra long distance.  I am planning to eliminate that perception during Round 1 with crisp conservative play."

The 2005 Carl Spackler Open is scheduled to begin in just over 200 days.  Players have 41 days to sign for the best amateur tournament in America.
