TROY, NY — Surinder Punia, a golfer from New York, has signed a national letter of intent to play in the 2005 Carl Spackler Open. Punia signs as the 3rd rookie, the last being Marty Zabonik from Ohio.

"I think Punia will make an immediate impact on our field," Captains Club Jay Dilks said. "He is going to play tough next year. He's mentally tough, and he works out two days a week. I'm looking forward to being on the same course as him."

The Carl Spackler Open begins its 2005 major on June 9. Mountain Valley will host the Spacker tournament in Barnesville, PA and currently has signed 9 players.  Punia represents the state of New York.

Punia indicated that he is ready for this major. "I love this game. The fact that the field is made up of my friends gives me added incentive to enter the tournament. The thought of wearing the coveted Golden Jacket is nothing like I have ever dreamed possible."

An excited Jay Dilks added, "Willy is a strong player with huge credentials. I just hope that he selects me as his primary partner in January."

The 2005 Carl Spackler Open begins in 175 days.  Players will continue to sign for 19 days.  A record attendance is expected for the 5th Major Championship.
