EBENSBURG, PA — Kevin Long, Sr. has signed a national letter-of-intent to attend the Carl Spackler Open Championship at Mountain Valley Golf Course. He is the first player to sign over the age of 40 to this year's major championship. Rick Dosky made the announcement on Thursday before retiring for the evening.
"I'm extremely excited with Kevin's decision," Dosky said. "We're fortunate to get someone with his age and passion for the tournament experience. He will benefit our program outside the golf bag significantly because of his personality." Kevin, turning 58 in February, skipped around the 100 average this past summer while putting well. "Kevin is yet another key to the piece of the puzzle for us in becoming a very large national tournament," added Dosky. "If nothing else, someone will have to safely drive Munksgard around the course."
Kevin Long was placed on injuried reserve two weeks ago and began his physical march towards his 3rd Open Championship early this week. His goal has always been to compete at the highest level. This year will be no exception. "I have no idea what to expect physically," says Kev. "God willing has me there swinging the club in June with my six sons."
Kevin Long is the 15th player to sign for the 5th Spackler Championship. The signing deadline is in 9 days.
