Expecting the Best
December 31, 2004
MARYSVILLE, OH — Tom Fowble, from Marysville, Ohio has signed a letter of intent to play golf in the 2005 Carl Spackler Open Championship beginning on June 9, 2005, CFO Rick Dosky proudly announced Monday. This was only a formality after OlaFowble won the 2003 tournament.
OlaFowble, who has been very competitive in amateur tournaments as well as weekly summer leagues, captained national attention when he shot 138 in 2001 without losing a golf ball. "That was a far cry from winning the 3rd annual Spackler Open", said Fowble. "Repeating in a tournament of this kind is nearly impossible, but I will give it my best shot."
Fowble won the 2003 major by 2-points over Chad Long. He returned in 2004, however placed tied for 37th place.
"We're extremely excited to sign OlaFowble, he's a quality guy," Dosky said. "He's an extremely hard worker and essential for the Spackler News Network. He may be a little inexperienced in large tournaments due to where he lives, but he's very coachable, is passionate about the game, and wants to compete at the next level. As an amateur, those are things you look for."
OlaFowble's strength lies in his wedge game from 100 yards and in, according to Dosky, but he also is accurate off the tee and is in great physical condition.
"He's very excited to compete," Dosky said. "He's just everything you could ask for in a recruit. He wants to make a commitment to the game and to the Open, and wants to work hard. His work ethic is incredible - he gets up at 5:30 in the morning to work out. He'll do whatever it takes to win."
Fowble is the 8th player to sign for the 2005 Carl Spackler Open and currently the 9th member. The remaining players have 3 days to sign.
