Rookie Homer Ready
January 1, 2005
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — The Carl Spackler Open added a talented performer with the signing of Jean Dore to letter of intent on Friday. He will join a men?s golf program that has been on the brink of greatness and quadruple in size since 2002. Jean (i.e. Homer) is the 5th rookie to sign to play in the Open Championship.
"We are thrilled that Homer has decided to come to Pottsville," said Kevin Long, Jr., VP of Tee Box. "Hopefully, he can hit a homer in Round 1 and a grandslam in Round 2."
Dore, the 5th registry from Virginia and the 4th from Virginia Beach will add to an already talented field for the 5th annual Carl Spackler Open. Jean shot a 42-point effort at Cypress Point in mid-October with 84 strokes. Expectations continue to grow as Homer enters as the 5th most skilled golfer.
"Dore has a lot of regional tournament experience and has a very solid foundation of fundamentals," Kevin Long, Jr. said. "It?s hard to tell what a national championship atmosphere will do to his game."
Dan noted in his letter of intent, ?I am not a long hitter and not capable of shooting very low numbers, however I have a terrific short game and am just now hitting my stride as a competitor on the regional stage,? Dosky said.
