Rookie Hagg Commits
January 13, 2005
WARREN, PA — Dan Hagg has helped lead the Blair clothing into 2005. This fall, he'll be taking his golf game to the level above that.
Hagg, who turned 22 this past Monday, recently signed a national letter of intent to play golf at the 2005 Carl Spackler Open near Pottsville, PA.
"Big D is without question one of the top players in the county, and will be a contender for the Golden Jacket," Vice President of Cuisine Tom McCauley said in a press release. "I am thrilled that Dan will be joining us in the fall. He brings a great deal of talent, experience and success to the Spackler."
Hagg has one scorecard posted from July 2004. His lone card would be good for 34 points in the 2005 On Tour Championship. He hit 110 strokes at Blueberry Hill golf course.
He's just real easy to talk to," McCauley said of Hagg. "He nearly agrees with everything I say. Everything when I have my trustie 4-iron in hand."
Big D said he's glad that he won't have the stress of picking a national tournament for exposure. He can just get busy trying to concentrate on playing. McCauley agreed. "I'm just happy he made the decision before the season started," McCauley said. "I didn't want it on his mind during the season -- just concentrate on the task at hand."
Hagg enters the tournament as the 35th player. He is also the 11th player to sign from Pennsylvania. "I have really high expectations," Hagg said. "Every since my freshman year in high school, I've wanted to be Mr Golf. This gives that chance and much more."
The 2005 Carl Spackler Open begins in 146 days.
