COLUMBUS, OH — The Spackler Business Office today received a surprise letter of intent from Shawn Long, a returning member that plans to succeed in this upcoming major championship.  Shawn Long becomes the 4th player in Spackler history to return after missing a tournament.  He returns home to the state of Pennsylvania where he breathed his first 21 years of life.

The 6-foot-2-inch, 235-pound man has not played golf since September 2003, but plans to capitalize this spring. "Today marks the beginning of my personal quest to win this major championship", said member Long. "There will be no time for fun this spring as I have some catching up to do."

The Chairman of the Captains Club expressed his acceptance to the tournament by saying, "I am very happy that Shawn (i.e. Donahue) will be joining the field this year. He is a fine student of the game and a talented athlete who will add depth to our list of hackers. There is no telling what he can do with those golf clubs completely covered in chlorophyll."

Long begun his 2003 major with 160 strokes shooting 74 on the front and 86 on the back nine.  He spent some time on the range after Round 1 and worked out some issues.  He returned for Round 2 and Round 3 with 133 strokes and placing tied for 10th place with Jeremy Myers.

"Thunder Hill was pretty difficult course", says Donahue.  "Nobody really knows true hacking until you reach 140 strokes before Hole 16.  Thank god this year's venue plays much easier.  I have not played it, but can guarantee nothing can be more difficult."

The Carl Spackler Open begins in 145 days.  To date, 36 players have signed to play in the best amateur golf championship in America.  A practice round is scheduled for June 8 with Round 1 beginning on June 9.
