Zavinski Sets Record
January 24, 2005
WARREN, PA — Jim Zavinski just sent in his deposit just like he had planned for 3 months. He never saw it coming. The Captains Club proudly announced today that Jim Zavinski has guaranteed another Spackler record has been broken. Jim signs as the 49th player for the 2005 Carl Spackler Open at Mountain Valley Golf Course near Pottsville, PA.
The old record from 2004 was a tournament field of 48 players at Tanglewood Park.
"This tournament is truely growing at a fevered pitch," says Zavinski from his couch at home with a bag of Lays Potato Chips. "A 49-guy tournament is common, but getting 49 kitchen passes for 3 or 4 days in a row is certainly a great event. What do I win?"
Jim signs as the 17th player from Pennsylvania and returns after his rookie year. Although he placed 30th last year in Winston-Salem, his home-field advantage should help his cause. Zavinski is expected to shoot 105, 105, and 105 at this year's event as the most repeatable golfer in the field.
The 2005 Carl Spackler Open is scheduled for play in Barnesville, PA. Players from 11 different states are expected to attend.
