GLEN ALLEN, VA — There were concerns when Mike Herron signed with minutes to spare on January 3rd.  Concerns of dedication, organizational skills, and kitchen pass allocation.

What was thought as a problem, returned as an excuse.  "I needed some reasons to attend this major," says Herron.  "It was either the Masters, US Open, or the Carl Spackler Open.  I needed all the time possible to make my decision."

Mike shared his reasons with the Captains Club when he signed and delivered his letter of intent.  The letter read,"

10. I want to see Joey Butkus wear the Cervick Outfit. 9.  I want to see Scott Zavinski wear the Carl Spackler Outfit. 8.  I look better in gold than green. 7.  The professional majors are based on RAW score.  I have to earn this Championship. 6.  The greens at Mountain Valley are supposed to be fair. 5.  Augusta and Pinehurst will be too hot and sweaty. 4.  There is no distribution of Yuengling Beer in Virginia, Georgia, or North Carolina. 3.  I want to see how someone can shoot 160+ for 18 holes. 2.  I want to see Matt Davis shoot 100, 76, 100 again this year. 1.  The Masters and US Open do not have a Horses Ass Award."

Mike signs as the 7th best golfer in the field with a +10 handicap.  Questions have always risen regarding lower handicapped players with a home course.  "Herron's productivity at other selected golf courses outside the Crossings is much worse than expected," says Kevin Long, Jr. of Virginia Beach, VA.  "He has been reportedly stroking the ball 14% more.  That is not good news."

He signs as the 53rd player to the national amateur tournament.  He breaks a record as the 9th player to sign from the state of Virginia.
