Can Smalls be Large?
February 6, 2005
ROCKY MOUNT, NC — The Captains Club has signed another athlete expected to come up large at the 2005 major championship. This player ironically is named Billy Smalls. "This guy is really going to change everything if he expects to place well," says Matt Davis of the Captains Club.
Jason Watson quickly entered his opinion. "He has tremendous success with his transportation to the golf course, his parallel parking, and even paying for a round of golf," says Watson. "Everywhere except for the golf course. But at Spackler it does not matter as his limitations will be well hidden in our tournament. Billy showcased his lack of accuracy, scaulding short game and course management skills last year at the 2004 Open Championship in North Carolina.
"Billy is very strong off the tee including a smooth golf swing, but ball control puts him out of bounds," Watson continued. "Though he has some issues to fix, he is getting plenty of NOOG points. Combined with his mental toughness from the Rocky Mount inter-city, he has the ability to shoot 35-over par and the win the championship. He will add great depth to our field and make an immediate impact."
The latest signing puts the tournament at a record 62 players. The 2005 Carl Spackler Open is scheduled to begin with it's annual practice round on June 8.
