Honoree Coming Soon
March 4, 2005
BARNESVILLE, PA — Each year the Carl Spackler Open honors a player who have had an impact on golf and the tournament. A person that not only shows up, but is identifiable to all who attend. A scheduled announcement for the 2005 Tournament Honoree is scheduled for Monday, March 21.
"I consider it a great honor to be recognized by the Carl Spackler Open in this prestigious tradition," Matt Davis said from his home in Pittsburgh, PA when asked about how the selection has changed his life. "The gentlemen who have been honored in the past are truly great champions of the game, and it is an honor for me to join them."
Matt Davis was the honoree last year. He shot a surprising 98, 76, 101 in last year's tournament good for 39th place. No honoree in Spackler history has ever placed in the top 50% of the full leaderboard.
This special player will be ageless, have love for the game, confident, not too honest and most importantly be able to achieve those kitchen passes. The player will be a human dynamo who tends to make normal people uncomfortable with what they haven't done with their own lives.
Nominees have been documented and are being reviewed. A vote is expected this week with an announcement sometime soon. Press conference notifications will be given through the Spackler Business Office.
The 2005 Tournament Honoree is open to all 68 participants. A member of the Captains Club along with 3 other members have been nominated.
The 2005 Carl Spackler Open will be played at Mountain Valley Golf Course in Barnesville, PA. Players from 12 states will be represented in the record field.
