Remembering Gold

March 9, 2005

MYRTLE BEACH, SC — As the four year anniversary passes of the inaugural Carl Spackler Open Championship, only two things come to mind. A golden performance from Greg Long (i.e. Slick) in the home stretch and ungolden performance by Mike Trojanowski (i.e. Troj) down the stretch. However, this year things will be different as talent such as Chris Lashley, Chet Munksgard, and Jim English will embark on a journey to win the coveted Golden Jacket and tournament purse.

"I think that a shot is all I have", said Slick. "I did win the tournament in 2001, but it helps when I have 8 competitors.  My only real competition was Pokey until he decided to drink a shot of vodka on every hole on the back nine." Slick won the tournament with 107 points, but the Captains Club expects another record performance due to a larger field and shorter golf course in 2005.

Slick added, "I do have some favorites in mind. I do not like talking about other players, but Dilks interests me. Retirement should present a great opportunity for gold.  Brian Flanagan, however does not interest me. He has been spiraling out of control since early 2003.

Slick was then asked about other players to watch. "Casey Nelson is someone to watch," says Slick. He has been quietly entering his scorecards. Only time will tell if he can hold that level of his game or suffer the consequences of the Al Cervic Outfit."

The Carl Spackler Open opens play in 91 days in Barnesville, PA. The field plans to work hard on their games and it should be a great tournament. An additional practice round is scheduled for Wednesday and many players are scheduled to attend. Tom McCauley, Vice President of Golf Instruction is scheduled for a fan workshop at 3PM.
