Perking Up Scramble
May 20, 2005
POTTSVILLE, PA — The 3rd annual Gumby 4-man scramble has perked up for 2005. An addition that will have the field saying, "We are taking Dosky's ball for sure; It is all Marc Long on this hole; I am glad we had Jon Munksgard's drive."
A change that not only takes the pressure off Ridgeway, Bakshi, and Zabonik, but adds the pressure to the unskilled players like Mike Trojanowski and Dan Hagg.
All 52 players have been divided into four skill levels as in the past. A, B, C, and D. Each of the 13 teams have one player of each skill level.
The scramble will be played in the same traditional format with one exception. The two skilled players will hit from the tips (Gold) and the two other players will play all 18 holes from the White tees.
"It is a great idea that I hope will flourish and become a new staple for scrambles worldwide," says Gumby. "I am tired of hackers getting off easy. This ensures team work. This also gives Dosky 1,200 yards of confidence."
The shortened yardage off the tee will grant an average of 66 yards for the C and D players if they can keep it straight on the very tight Pine course.
"I really love the idea," says brother Matt Davis. "I am tired of carrying these guys as they continue to get off easy. This ensures they can be held accountable for a team loss or win."
The 2005 Carl Spackler Open begins in 19 days. The players continue to get ready for the experience of their year. Yuengling reminds everyone against wearing open toed shoes. You will be escorted out of the building.
