Dosky Wins Jacket

July 30, 2005

POTTSVILLE, PA — What started out on Saturday with Garrett in the lead, quickly turned into a one-man footrace at the 2005 Carl Spackler Open. During the front nine of final round play, Rick Dosky bogeyed 5 times including 4 in a row on holes Oak 6, 7, 8, and 9.  He scored 28 points on the front side and nearly slammed the door shut on the 5th annual Major Championship.  On Sunday, he brought home the Golden Jacket to his fans in Grove City, OH.

Dosky's win returns the Jacket back to Ohio from Pennsylvania.  His win also made a strong statement regarding Ohio players as they have won the Jacket 3 of 5 times.

"This is the greatest event", says Dosky. "To come in as a hacker and go home as a Major Champion is the ultimate compliment." Dosky was asked about his bogey binge. "I have never had 4 bogeys in one round. This NOOG system rewards aggressive play and definitely my bogeys. It was absolutely incredible to watch."

Glenn Hoffert turned on the jets on Saturday after wearing the Al Czervic Outfit. He scored 4 long putts in the final round to dig himself out of the dreaded Carl Spackler Outfit.  Mike Herron shot over 100 strokes for the 2nd time in the tournament and wore the Carl Spackler Outfit.  Mike Herron's had one 3-digit score over 100 strokes in his past 29 scorecards.

"I did not expect to shoot poorly at the Open," says Mike Herron. "My triple-digit scores were just awful. If I could have predicted that disaster, I would have prepared much more this spring."

Mike Herron finished with 49 points and lost the tournament by 2 points.
