Grande Eliminated
August 29, 2005
COLUMBUS, OH — The Grande Golf Club in Jackson, MI was eliminated this week from an opportunity that seemed ideal, but turned into misfortune. The entire Jackson, MI area was one service disappointment after another.
"We have eliminated the Grande Golf Club from a possible Open Championship due to three solid reasons," says Brian Long. "The first being lack of sufficient nightly entertainment space, a clubhouse trailer which introduces bad weather issues, and distance from the field of players."
Grande Golf Club is ranked 4 1/2 stars by Golf Digest and was leading the 2006 crop of
courses due to layout and width of fairways for the hackers.
"We were disappointed with our trip to Jackson," says Jay Dilks. "Everything except the actual golf course looked difficult to administer and it is just not a fit for us."
The Captains Club vote for venue takes place in about 30 days. West Virginia, New York, Michigan, and Kentucky still remain the focus. Old Silo is located 30 minutes east of Lexington, KY. The Legacy is located 10 minutes northwest of Toledo, OH.
There are 282 days until the 2006 Carl Spackler Open. Invitations will be available on November 15 with $120 non-refundable deposits due on January 3.
