VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — The Casino Contest lasted two years. However, it will not return due to lack of ownership and interest from the Captains Club.
"The interest of ownership and responsiblity simply is not there," says Tom McCauley. "With no ownership, it has been removed as future entertainment."
The Casino Contest was introduced in 2004 at Tanglewood Park. It delivered blackjack and then returned and more expanded in 2005 at Mountain Valley with blackjack and roulette. The winners on Saturday night were invited to a Texas Hold'em table.
Mike Lewis won the 2004 prize ($100) and Chris Lashley won in 2005 ($150).
There has been no confirmed replacement for the entertainment. The Captains Club hoping for a flood of ideas.
The casino is one of a few structural changes set for 2006. A club vote was completed in late August and details of the vote will continue to be communicated this fall.
The 2006 Carl Spackler Open is scheduled for June 7-10, 2006 at an undisclosed location. An expected 84 players are expected.
