September 15, 2005
WARREN, PA — The #1 tournament in amateur golf added a centralized venue this week. The venue would keep the tournament in the state of Pennsylvania, however centralize travel for the majority. The Madison Club located in Madison, PA was added with 20 days left before the 2006 Open location is to be selected by the Captains Club.
"We are delighted with our centralized location," says Don Creighton. "The Madison Club has a very nice facility with short distances to hotels and some entertainment. We are looking forward to a vote on venue."
The course is ranked the 4 stars by Golf Digest and one of the top courses around the Pittsburgh metro area. This 18-hole design is located in the rolling hills of Westmoreland County and boasts yardage of 6,900 yards. The 7 lakes, 62 sand traps, level bent grass fairways, large USGA greens make it a clear nomination for the 2006 Carl Spackler Open.
The tournament entertainment includes TJ's Bar and Restaurant in New Stanton, PA. The local establishment includes a pool table, bar area, darts, and many televisions.
The Madison Club is added to the list of nominated venues including Old Silo in Kentucky and The Legacy in Michigan. One additional centralized location is expected to be nominated within a week.
The Captains Club will begin deliberation of vote on venue next Monday. The tournament venue will be announced on October 1. Budget season begins shortly afterwards. Tournament price will become available by Halloween. The invitations for the 2006 Carl Spackler Open will be available on November 15.
