The Indiana 3-Peat
December 8, 2005
SELLARSBURG, IN — Tom McCauley, the 2004 & 2005 Closest to the Pin Award Winner has signed a national letter of intent to return and play golf at 2006 Carl Spackler Open, announced today by the Captains Club.
Tom's return ensures the state of Indiana will not only be represented for six straight years, but will also strongly defend a possible Closest to the Pin three-peat.
In 2002, McCauley lost the tournament and wore the Carl Spackler Outfit. In 2004, McCauley finished 40th at Tanglewood Park. Last year, he fell apart in the final pairing during the final round. However, McCauley has owned the Closest to the Pin contest.
"A truly great player and showman", says Jay Dilks of the Captain's Club. "He works very hard for his accomplishments, which still includes our standard for the Carl Spackler Outfit. I have never seen one individual perform from short-iron distance like he has done under pressure of field. He really demands attention and respect when he continues to slam the door in 68 faces."
McCauley, a native of Warren, PA, currently resides in Sellarsburg, IN. Individually, McCauley is a national selection this season while being named the Warren Times Observer "Golf Made Easy" Instructor of the year even after the debacle in Williamsburg in 2002.
McCauley signs as the 3rd player to the field. The Carl Spackler Open made its invitations available 23 days ago. Signings are expected at a record pace over the next four weeks. Deadline for entry is postmarked by December 28, 2005.
