The Baby Ruth

RUSSELL, PA — The Carl Spackler Open has fully loaded itself for its June date of destiny. Participants from all over the nation are embarking on a pilgrimage to Tennessee in less than a month. Excitement has hit an all-time high, which includes 7-year member Barry Cederquist indulging in a Baby Ruth from the bottom of drained swimming pool.

"Our country club director asked me to drain, scrub, sterilize, and disinfect the swimming pool for the summer," says Barry Cederquist. "It wasn't a surprise to find a brown log resting at the bottom, but who would have thought that brown log would be a Baby Ruth? I looked at it and wondered. It passed the smell test too. So of course I indulged as only Carl Spackler himself would have done."

The Baby Ruth incident is Barry's first at the club, but hopefully his experience can teach everyone a valuable lesson. "Do not judge a book by its cover," said Cederquist. "Just because something looks like a brown log... Sometimes 'it is no big deal'. We can take that to the golf course too. Just because Jimmy Graham does not look like Ricky Fowler or even Craig Stadler... that does not mean he cannot put an as$ whipping on you."

In other news, the Carl Spackler Open moves forward into May. The event has ordered all its products and completed both rooming list and 99% of the pairings. "Pairing sheets and several details remain," says Chairman of the Captains Club Greg Long. "We still need to analyze the pairings for pace of play and logistical concerns. We also need to process bag storage and detailed processes for June 8."

The 2016 Carl Spackler Open will be held in Sevierville, TN starting June 8 with a practice round. There are 64 golfers expected for the 16th annual event. Allan Hench returns as the reigning champion with Jon Munksgard returning as the Carl Spackler.
