Format Determined for KGB Cup

August 13, 2014

TERRA ALTA, WV — After more than a week of intense negotiations, the details of the 2014 KGB Cup were agreed upon by captains Chef and Killer. "I was in difficult situation," Chef said, with a sigh of relief. "Killer and I have not agreed on a single thing since I met him. For us to get this finalized, in under two weeks, shows a great amount of patience on my part." As the 2013 winning captain, it was Boland's job to pick this year's captains and mediate when talks nearly slowed to a halt. "I thought I was adding a little excitement to the cup this year, when I picked these two captains. I never dreamed that they would argue over the stupidest crap," Boland said. Then Killer, who didn't want to look weak, added, "Chef is like any other opponent I've faced; if he isn't whining, I didn't do my job. I couldn't care less about the format, winning that cup is all I care about."

As for the format, each foursome will consist of two players from each team, and five points will be at risk in the three matches that each foursome will play. The first six holes will have two singles, match play matches, A vs. A (1 PT), and B vs. B (1PT). The next six holes will also have two singles, match play matches, A vs. B (1PT), and B vs. A (1PT). The final six holes will be a shamble, best ball, high/low (1PT). For those of you that don't know what a shamble is, your team uses the best shot from the tee box, and each of you play your own ball from that point in. Best ball high/low is where on any given hole, the best score from each team is compared to each other, and the worse score from each team are compared to each other. So, each hole will count as two.

Also this year, the scoring will be done with MELC points, and handicaps will not be needed to set up foursomes. This means that Alf's 3pt par will tie Sheiker's 3pt double bogey, and lose to his 4pt bogey. The live draft will be Wednesday September 3rd, at 8pm, with pairings to be announced on September 10th. Chef's team members will be wearing the 2009 royal blue shirts, and the 2010 gold shirts will be worn by the members of Killer's team. The KGB Cup is just 35 days away and can't get here fast enough.
