The golden jacket began in 2000. The jackets was purchased from the Thrift Shop in Denver, CO. Winners are urged to wear their Jacket during the Carl Spackler Open so patrons would be able to identify a reliable source of information. Presented to the champion during the awards ceremony on the final evening, the Golden Jacket is worn in recognition of a man's ability to perform above and beyond his normal game. The champion is given the privilege to join this select group of individuals who have worn the finest of polyester blazers, the ones made famous by Johnny Carson in the 1970's. Lusted after like a one night stand that you wouldn?t tell your friends about the next morning, the Golden Jacket is emblazoned with the Official Carl Spackler Open insignia on its breast. It is the custom at the Carl Spackler Open that the winner from the previous year presents the Golden Jacket to the new winner and helps him into it. Traditionally, the champion takes his Jacket home with him for one year, returning it to the Club when he returns for the Tournament. The Jacket is then stored at the Carl Spackler Open headquarters and available whenever the champion visits.
