Nothing is Impossible

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — The drama continues, at least as far as the Virtual Tournament is concerned. Dave Nickles hit a record low number of strokes as he stunned the tournament field and moved up the Leaderboard once again. The 41-year old did what others would consider to be impossible over the weekend.

Nickles played Princess Anne Country Club over the weekend where he shot a career low 93 strokes. "I played the single best round of my life on Saturday," said Nickles as he gloated. "My pops and little brother, who for some reason have never attended a Carl Spackler Open, were there to witness."

Kevin Long seemed to ignore the score and proposed the question, "Why is Nickles brother staying at home each June?"

Dave Nickles did not post nine pars, but nine straight pars starting at the 5th hole. "Nine pars in a row!!!!" screamed Nickles. "The most pars in a single round to this point was five. This is freakin crazy!!"

Dave finished with a 23-over 93 as he struggles to deal with the sudden surge in golf ability under his 10-year hacker shadow. "It is a tug-of-war indeed," said Nickles. "I am looking forward with a huge smile on my face to posting my card online."

The 5-year member carded an additional six triple-bogeys and two double-bogeys during his round.

"I see Mark Palmer’s 92-point effort out there on the website," said Nickles. "A 5-over 77 at Red Riding Hood Fantasy Land Golf Park is not impressing me, but I am not bitter."

Nickles is referring to Palmer's round at Red Bridge Golf & Country Club. Palmer shot a very impressive 1-over 37 on the front nine including 3 birdies. "I am pleased with my 55 points on the front nine," said Palmer of his monsterous point total. "I am even more impressed with my 8 pars and hanging in there down the stretch."

Palmer was asked to comment on the Nickles career round. "The Fairy Princess Club has a fairy-like 5,700 yards," said Palmer. "Are the fairy tees longer or shorter than the red tees? Something can be said for his short game, but he needs to move back to the senior tees and be a real man."

Palmer jumps into 2nd position within the 2010 Virtual Tournament. He sits just 1.1 points per round behind John McAninch, but is expected to take over the top spot very soon when his 10th oldest round (48 points) departs the leaderboard. Dave Nickles has 18th position with a field of 38 golfers.
